A Crazy Kind of Love by Megha Rao: Review

Hello, guys! Today I am going to review my thoughts and feels on a very cute, cliché book called A Crazy Kind of Love by Megha Rao. (Sorry, I don’t know how but this book does not have a GoodReads link currently)

I have been on this Indian author binge lately because I was shamed a lot by my parents for reading more books by Indian authors, what with me being Indian and all. So, I read this book. I won it in a giveaway coincidentally, which was hosted by Penguin India, so I would also like to thank them!

I actually surprisingly liked this book, I really didn’t expect to. The premise talks about mental illness and love, and I was a bit unsure whether to read it. I am not triggered by mental health issues in books but when it isn’t done right, it does somewhat irk me. In this book however, it did feel like the author had done the research pretty well and knew what she was talking about.

This title is the one I want to talk about. I have done a love of crazy things for love or the idea of love which is why I was immediately attracted to this book. I have flown to London, embarrassed myself in front of my entire school and laminated table mats, among a few other crazy things I have done. It says on the cover that this book is for All Those Who Have Ever Fallen in Love. Which I think I have? So, I was drawn to it. The cover is also very beautiful.  I do love a good background with silhouettes.

If you look at the contemporary part of this book, I personally believe that it was too exaggerated.  I did not buy what the author was showcasing and it did not make my heart go awwww like a contemporary book should make me feel! I think it was too stretched. It could have been written well and over a longer period of time, maybe then I could have gone along with it.

I do admit the guy was pretty hot and just overall stunning, though

The ending was the part I was most disappointed in. It was way too sickly sweet and unrealistic. It was extremely alike to a typical Bollywood romance with a hell load of drama and practically impossible things.

This book tried to focus on too many things together I think, which was the biggest problem. There were family disconnections, mental health issues, isolation, love, drug abuse, alcoholism and broken relationships all at once, which made it a huge mess! I think it would have been much better if the author focused on one particular thing rather than so many problems!

I think the strong point in this book, were the characters! I could empathize and relate with a few things and it was just very easy to like them. The writing style made it easier to understand them and their situation much better. So that was a big plus point!

I gave this book a 2.5 out of 5 stars, overall.

I liked this book right up till the ending and then I just was not sure about it. I would recommend it to you if you are going through a mental condition or wasn’t something to relate to. Or, if you like me, are a hopeless romantic and want some hope that you can find love in the most different and crazy of situations! ❤
